India will celebrate its 79th Independence Day on Friday. Every year on August 15, Independence Day is observed as a symbol of the end of British colonial rule and the emergence of India as a sovereign nation.
Independence Day in India is marked with various ceremonies and cultural activities that promote patriotism and unity. The main event is held at Red Fort in the capital, Delhi, where the Indian Prime Minister hoists the national flag. Following the flag hoisting, a 21-gun salute is fired and the national anthem is played.
