A total of 588 vehicles provided as grant assistance by India have arrived in Nepal to support the upcoming House of Representatives election scheduled for Falgun 21.
India had pledged to provide 700 vehicles in assistance for the election, and 588 have already reached Nepal. All the donated vehicles were brought into the country with customs duty exemption.
Out of the received vehicles, Indian Ambassador to Nepal Navin Srivastava handed over 226 Bolero jeeps to the Ministry of Home Affairs and 50 to the Nepali Army on Friday.
According to the Ministry, Ambassador Srivastava formally handed over the vehicles to Home Minister Om Prakash Aryal and Chief of Army Staff Ashok Raj Sigdel. The remaining vehicles pledged by India are expected to arrive in a subsequent batch.
Assistant Spokesperson of the Ministry of Home Affairs, Rama Acharya, said the vehicles will be used by Nepal Police, the Armed Police Force, the Election Commission, and the Ministry.
In addition, India has also provided non-lethal crowd control equipment worth Rs. 350 million to Nepal Police and the Armed Police Force as part of its grant assistance.
