Middle East — Iran has reportedly closed the Strait of Hormuz after Israel continued airstrikes across multiple locations in Lebanon despite a ceasefire understanding with the United States.
According to reports, Israel carried out heavy overnight strikes in Beirut, Baalbek, Hermel, Nabatieh, Aley district, Sidon, and Tyre.
Earlier, the militant group Hezbollah had warned that the ceasefire deal would collapse if Lebanon was not included. Meanwhile, Iran’s Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) has warned of strong retaliation if Israeli attacks in Lebanon are not immediately halted.
U.S. President Donald Trump stated that Hezbollah was not part of the ceasefire framework with Iran. Previously, Iran had sent a 10-point ceasefire proposal to the United States, which included demands to halt attacks on Hezbollah.
The United States and Iran had agreed to a two-week ceasefire after nearly 40 days of tensions. Trump said the decision came following appeals from Shehbaz Sharif and Pakistan’s military leadership.
