The jailer of Kailali Prison has been replaced, with Jalandhar Bhusal appointed in place of Basanta Khatri. Bhusal assumed his duties at 3 p.m. today.
The change comes after a violent clash inside the prison on Friday night that left one inmate dead and 47 others injured. The deceased was identified as Bharat Chaudhary of Dhangadhi–4.
On Saturday afternoon, tensions remained high as inmates briefly took control of parts of the prison, forcing police to struggle to restore order.
