Senior leader of the CPN (Unified Socialist), Jhalanath Khanal, has stated that it is not the right time to pursue party unification with the CPN (Maoist Centre).
His remarks come amid ongoing discussions among the Maoist Centre, Unified Socialist, and Mahindra Yadav faction regarding a possible party merger.
Currently in Apollo Hospital, New Delhi, for the treatment of his wife Rabilaxmi Chitrakar, who was injured during the Gen Z protest, Khanal made it clear that the unification process should not proceed now.
“This is not the time to merge with any party. We should not move toward a path that leads us — or others — into trouble,” Khanal said, emphasizing the need for restructuring and transformation in all political parties.
Through social media, he expressed that both large and small political parties — including his own — need new ideological, organizational, and policy-based reforms.
“Every party must undergo restructuring and transformation to uplift the nation, the people, and the leftist movement from a new foundation. Currently, there is turmoil and division across parties, including within Gen Z groups. The demand of this era, time, and the nation itself is for transformation,” he wrote.
Khanal further stated that his party should review its activities of the past four years, emphasizing the importance of listening to the voices of youth raised since the ninth national convention. He suggested reorganizing the party in alignment with youth aspirations.
He also called for uniting all communist and leftist forces to form a broad national front to participate effectively in the next parliamentary elections.
