The district-level election of Janata Samajbadi Party Nepal (JSPN) in Saptari has been postponed. The vote, which was scheduled for Sunday morning, was suspended after the District Election Committee issued a notice.
The election was stalled due to a disagreement between two factions — one led by Kedar Prasad Yadav and the other by Umesh Prasad Yadav. The Kedar panel demanded an uncontested declaration, claiming all municipal-level candidates from their side were unopposed. However, the Umesh panel insisted that all 25 members be elected through open competition, which led the committee to halt the voting process without making a final decision.
According to the JSPN’s election directive, each local unit must have at least one representative in the district committee. The Kedar panel had fielded candidates in all municipalities, while the Umesh panel had not submitted candidates at the municipal level.
Both panels had filed nominations on Saturday as per the election schedule, but the growing dispute prevented the Election Committee from publishing the final list of candidates.
Candidates registered for key positions include Kedar Prasad Yadav and Umesh Prasad Yadav for president; Laxman Yadav, Usha Kumari Sah, Hareram Yadav, and Rajeshwar Ray for vice-president; Shambhu Kumar Yadav and Niraj Kumar Jha for general secretary; Rameshwar Kaudgiya Yadav, Rita Kumari Chaudhary, Daud Hussain, and Rahul Mandal for deputy general secretary; and Armendra Kumar Yadav (Arbin), Abhinav Yadav (Niku), and Suchita Kumari Yadav for treasurer.
The election was set to elect a 57-member district leadership team, including seven office-bearers, 18 geographic representatives, 18 women, and seven from inclusive groups. A total of 515 delegates were expected to cast their votes.
