Chairperson of the Communist Party of Nepal (Unified Marxist–Leninist) (CPN-UML), K P Sharma Oli, has stated that political stability and cooperation among major parties are essential conditions for the country’s prosperity.
Making public the party’s position in the context of the upcoming House of Representatives elections, Oli described the incidents of Bhadra 24 as a planned attack on Nepal’s national existence and sovereignty.
Accusing criminal elements of committing anti-national activities under the guise of a “new force,” Oli urged voters to recognize such forces in time. He described the recent cooperation among major parties as a sincere effort to end political instability, arguing that unity among large parties is not the cause of crisis but rather a step taken to break the cycle of instability.
Oli claimed that after failing to topple a stable government through constitutional processes, certain groups resorted to attacking the system from the streets, referring to the events of Bhadra 23 and 24. He said that so-called new political actors have already demonstrated their capacity at local and federal levels and asserted that the UML’s track record in governance and development has been proven.
The UML chair announced that, following the elections, the first Cabinet meeting of a UML-led government would immediately move forward with 11 priority tasks within a set timeline. He informed that 25 policy pillars have been incorporated into the party’s manifesto to achieve the goal of “Prosperous Nepal, Happy Nepali.”
He also pledged that the UML would take responsibility for the immediate reconstruction of structures damaged during the Bhadra protests, including Singha Durbar, court buildings, and the Parliament building, as well as for boosting the declining confidence of the private sector.
Dismissing discussions of generational transition and intergenerational conflict as misleading, Oli argued that the country can only be built through a combination of youth energy and experienced wisdom. Comparing youth to “fire” and experience to “light,” he said fire needs direction and light needs energy.
He concluded by stating that the upcoming election is not merely about changing generations but a “referendum between building and destroying the nation.” He urged citizens to vote with a “Nation First” spirit to protect national dignity and the Constitution.
