Kathmandu Metropolitan City Mayor Balen Shah has said that the country needs honest leadership rather than popular slogans. He made the remarks in a post on social media platform Facebook.
Marking “Earthquake Safety Day,” Mayor Shah also expressed his wish that Nepal never has to face a tragedy like the devastating 2015 earthquake again.
Stating that the Metropolitan City has begun delivering services that citizens can directly experience, along with transparent systems and structural reforms, Mayor Shah said the time has now come to expand these reforms and practices from the metropolitan level to the national level.
“Institutional development and progress should not remain limited to paper; they must be something every citizen can feel,” he wrote. “For this, it is not enough to merely spread hope. The country must be moved forward with commitment and honesty. This is a policy aimed not only at our generation, but also at handing over a safe and hopeful nation to future generations.”
Mayor Shah further said that the country needs a long-term vision instead of short-term decisions, and honest leadership instead of populist slogans. He added that their entry into politics was driven by the goal of making Nepal safer, sustainable, and well-organized, and called on all to move forward together on the journey of nation-building.
