CPN-UML Chair and former Prime Minister KP Sharma Oli has said that the dissolution of the House of Representatives was unconstitutional and announced that his party will move forward with a demand for its reinstatement.
Speaking at a UML program in Gundu, Bhaktapur, Oli said that restoring the parliament is necessary to revive democracy in the country.
“If we fail to act in time, we will later regret it,” Oli said. “Some people say we should wait until the election on Falgun 21, and if it doesn’t happen, then we’ll demand reinstatement. But the dissolution is unconstitutional, illegal, and undemocratic — it goes against national interests. Why should we wait until Falgun 21?”
Oli expressed confidence that the people will take to the streets in support of parliament reinstatement. “The time has come for us to move forward. The Nepali people will rise and create a storm of movement,” he said.
He also blamed Prime Minister Sushila Karki for insisting on assuming the premiership, which he said led to the dissolution of the House. “The parliament was dissolved unconstitutionally,” Oli added. “Who granted the power to dissolve the House and violate the constitution? Where did that authority come from?”
