CPN-UML Chairperson KP Sharma Oli has stated that he is ready to participate in a public debate in view of the upcoming elections. Sharing his views through social media, Oli said that the UML has entered the electoral contest from the side of nation-building, in what he described as a competition between forces that build the country and those that seek to damage it.
Oli noted that both old and newly formed political parties are actively engaged in the election, with parties ranging from those that have played historic roles to newly established ones fielding their own prime ministerial candidates. In such a context, he emphasized that the agendas, past performance, and future plans of parties aspiring to lead the country should be made clear to the public through open debates.
He mentioned that there have been growing calls from the intellectual community for transparent public debates among top political leaders. According to Oli, the increasing tendency to mislead voters through framed narratives and promotional content on social media may have heightened the need for such debates.
Stressing that face-to-face discussions on what has been achieved so far in nation-building and what the future roadmap looks like are positive and necessary, Oli said he is prepared to stand in a public debate and present the UML’s achievements and future action plans with facts.
Oli also underlined the need to organize a public debate by bringing together all leaders presented as prime ministerial candidates after the elections, allowing for direct questioning on a common platform. He reaffirmed his commitment to openly present his agenda in such a debate and called on all concerned stakeholders to jointly organize and participate in a transparent public debate.
