CPN-UML Chair KP Sharma Oli has said that attacks on Nepal’s constitution, sovereign power, and national independence have not stopped. Addressing an election preparation and committee declaration program organized by the CPN-UML Capital Province Committee, Oli made these remarks.
He said that the country has reached a situation where people are being forced to act under threats and are made to move forward believing criminal acts to be right. Oli stated that institutions responsible for delivering justice are living in fear and are compelled to make decisions under intimidation. “Despite everything being so clear, the Election Commission is still sitting silently,” he said.
Referring to the ongoing dispute within the Nepali Congress, Oli said that if matters were handled in line with law and justice, the situation would be clear. He questioned why the Nepali Congress has not held a special general convention and who is responsible for calling it, adding that there should be established procedures to determine majority and minority positions.
Oli said it was painful and worrying that the Nepali Congress has reached a point of possible division and expressed surprise as to why its leaders are knowingly allowing this to happen.
“At a time when the constitution has been trampled, undermined, and the system itself has been wounded, the Congress, which should be fighting against this, is instead heading toward an unnecessary party split,” Oli said, adding that UML leaders and cadres must recognize that this is the time to fight for the country and democracy.
