Krishna Janmashtami is being celebrated across the country today with various programs. Since early morning, long queues of devotees have been seen at the Krishna Temple in Patan, Lalitpur.
Hindus around the world celebrate Krishna Janmashtami with devotion and reverence, worshipping Lord Krishna—the proponent of Bhakti Yoga, Jnana Yoga, and Karma Yoga. The festival marks the birth of Krishna, an incarnation of Lord Vishnu, who descended to earth to protect humanity from injustice, tyranny, and demonic forces.
During the Dharma Yuddha (holy war) of Kurukshetra between the Kauravas and Pandavas, Krishna, serving as the charioteer of Arjuna—one of the five Pandavas on the side of truth—imparted the teachings of the Shrimad Bhagavad Gita.
Due to the divine love stories of Krishna with the Gopis and Radha, this entire month is also celebrated as the festival of love, known as the Jhulan Utsav (Swing Festival).
