Efforts are ongoing to clear multiple landslide blockages along various sections of the Mechi Highway, which has been severely affected by continuous rainfall. The highway, considered the lifeline of the Mechi region, has been obstructed at several locations.
According to the Road Division Office, Ilam, clearance work is currently underway on the Biblyante–Ranke section of the highway. A major landslide at Sanbire Khola along the Biblyante–Puwakhola–Sakkejung–Ranke route is being removed.
While vehicles can reach Milgole from the Ranke side, blockages at Milgole, Banchare Golai, and Sanbire Khola are expected to take more time to clear. Authorities estimate that this section of the road could reopen by Wednesday.
Meanwhile, the blockage along the Maikhola (Rajduwali) section may take longer to clear. The Road Division Office, Ilam, has deployed heavy machinery to remove debris and is working to reopen the highway as soon as possible.
Although the stretch from Jorkalash (Jhapa–Ilam border) to Fikkal is relatively clear, major obstructions remain at Godak, Rajduwali, and Nepaltar.
The Mechi Highway serves as a key route connecting Jhapa, Ilam, Panchthar, and Taplejung districts, making its reopening critical for transportation and supply movement in eastern Nepal.
