Traffic along the Prithvi Highway has been halted due to landslides at Jwangkhola and Tingrangkhani in Benighat Rorang Rural Municipality–10, Dhading. Large amounts of soil and rocks slid onto the road, stopping vehicle movement in both directions. The landslides began around 10 a.m. today.
According to Inspector Suraj Shrestha of the District Traffic Police Office, Gajuri, efforts are underway to clear the debris and resume transportation. With the Dashain festival underway, the highway closure has stranded thousands of vehicles as travelers head home for the holidays. Security personnel have been deployed to move stranded vehicles to safer locations to minimize potential risks, said Superintendent of Police Bheshraj Rijal of the Dhading District Police Office.
Authorities have also warned travelers to remain alert and use alternative routes if necessary, as the risk of further landslides remains high not only near the blocked area but in other parts of the highway as well.
Earlier, on Monday night, a dry landslide in Jwangkhola caused a 17-hour two-way obstruction on the Prithvi Highway. That section was cleared and reopened on Wednesday morning before the latest incident occurred.
