A technical team from the Central Zoo rescued a leopard from the store room of Machhapuchhre School located in Kusunti Height, Lalitpur on Tuesday morning.
The rescue operation was carried out by tranquilizing (darting) the animal with the joint assistance of the Nepal Police from Satdobato, the District Forest Office Lalitpur, and the metropolitan police team of Lalitpur.
According to Central Zoo chief Satyanarayan Sah, the rescued leopard is estimated to be about 10 years old and weighs around 60 kilograms. After the rescue, the animal has been kept at the zoo’s wildlife hospital for treatment. He said that the leopard will be released back into its natural habitat after recovery.
Over the past year, the Central Zoo has rescued 241 wildlife species including birds and mammals. Among them, 57 animals were treated and later released back into their natural habitats. Currently, the zoo houses more than 1,300 animals from 115 different species.
