Long queues for cooking gas cylinders have been seen in the Balaju Industrial Area. Since early morning, consumers have been standing in line carrying empty cylinders in hopes of getting them refilled.
Some people have managed to buy filled cylinders and return home, but the number of consumers able to obtain gas remains limited.
The shortage has been linked to the ongoing conflict involving the United States, Israel, and Iran, which has heightened tensions across the Gulf region. The maritime route known as the Strait of Hormuz—bordered by Iran, the United Arab Emirates, and Oman—has also been affected by the conflict, disrupting the transportation of gas and petroleum products through the route.
The impact has been felt globally. Nepal imports cooking gas and petroleum products through India, but disruptions in supply within India have also affected deliveries to Nepal.
The Nepal Oil Corporation, which manages the distribution of petroleum products in the country, has been attempting to resolve the supply issues, though the problem has not yet been fully resolved.
