Lumbini Province Chief Minister Chet Narayan Acharya has emphasized that collective effort is essential to establish good governance and a transparent society.
In his message issued today on the occasion of International Anti-Corruption Day, Chief Minister Acharya said that strengthening good governance and creating a corruption-free society requires shared commitment from all.
“Corruption is not only economic misconduct. It seriously affects social values, democratic systems, political stability, and the pace of development,” the message states. He added that understanding the necessity of controlling corruption to build a prosperous and responsible state, the government has been advancing various initiatives to strengthen legal, policy, and institutional frameworks.
He reaffirmed that the provincial government is fully committed to its role in the collective fight against corruption. Acharya noted that Nepal became a party to the UN Convention against Corruption in 2011 and has since been moving ahead with national strategies and action plans in line with international commitments.
According to him, corruption is a problem that impacts not only the economy but also social values, democratic processes, political stability, and development. To address these challenges, the provincial government has been taking steps to strengthen legal, policy, and institutional structures.
He informed that a five-year strategic plan prioritizing good governance promotion and corruption reduction is currently being implemented. Measures such as reducing facilities for former high-ranking officials, enforcing a code of conduct for the Chief Minister and Ministers, cutting down recurrent expenditures, and implementing development projects through competitive processes have significantly contributed to enhancing transparency and accountability.
