CPN-UML Politburo member Mahesh Basnet has alleged that a coordinated conspiracy is being executed against party chairman KP Sharma Oli, involving political leaders, celebrities, and media narratives.
Posting on Facebook on Thursday morning, Basnet claimed that a “series of conspiratorial games” has now started surfacing. He referred to UML leader Ishwar Pokhrel’s recent remarks during a press conference, where Pokhrel questioned why Chairman Oli had not appeared before the commission for a statement, adding that he would have gone if he were in Oli’s place.
Basnet further alleged that a reported meeting between Prime Minister Sushila Karki and former President Bidya Devi Bhandari two days ago also included discussions about arresting KP Oli.
He said this development, along with what he called the “staged negotiation drama” involving the so-called Jenji group, misleading claims circulated by celebrities such as Himesh Pant, and media trials suggesting Oli could be arrested, all point in the same direction.
Basnet accused certain forces of attempting to disrupt the UML’s upcoming General Convention, spread fear, reduce participation, and ultimately weaken Oli’s popularity during a crucial political moment. He warned that such attempts would fail.
“The UML is capable of countering any kind of conspiracy. The party will stand firm in its position. No attempt to pressure or arrest the chairman will ever succeed,” Basnet stated.
He further vowed strong resistance, claiming that all these “plots will collapse even before they fully unfold.”
