
Police have arrested two individuals for allegedly demanding Rs. 1 crore while claiming to be employees of the Commission for the Investigation of Abuse of Authority (CIAA). The victims filed a complaint after repeated calls and threats of immediate arrest for not paying the demanded amount. The arrests were made on Bhadra 17, 2082 (Nepali calendar) from Kalanki, Kathmandu Metropolitan City-14.
The arrested individuals are 27-year-old Laxman Paneru from Sund, Shikhar Municipality-9, Doti, currently residing in Kirtipur, and 54-year-old Binod Sah from Harinagar Rural Municipality-7, Jhapa, currently residing in Sukedhara.
Police reported that they threatened a local resident of Tokha Municipality-8, claiming that the citizen and their family’s citizenship were fake, and demanded Rs. 1 crore to avoid legal action while presenting themselves as CIAA employees.
Authorities recovered four mobile phones from different companies, Rs. 200,000 in cash, and a white Ford Figo from their possession. The suspects have been sent to District Police Office, Bhadrapur, Kathmandu for further investigation and legal action.
