The CPN (Maoist Centre) has decided to unify with the CPN (Unified Socialist) and hold a joint meeting on November 6 (Kartik 20). Maoist spokesperson Agni Prasad Sapkota informed that the Maoist Central Committee meeting will take place on November 4 (Kartik 18).
This decision was approved at the party secretariat meeting held this morning at Paris Danda, which also resolved to organize a joint convention. However, Secretariat member Janardan Sharma boycotted the meeting.
According to spokesperson Sapkota, although Chairman Pushpa Kamal Dahal ‘Prachanda’ urged Sharma to share his views in the meeting, Sharma refused to participate. The party has condemned Sharma’s behavior as anarchic and undisciplined.
Meanwhile, senior Unified Socialist leader Jhalanath Khanal announced the formation of a new party after Chairman Madhav Kumar Nepal decided to merge with the Maoist Centre. Khanal stated that if legally possible, his faction would continue under the Unified Socialist’s name; otherwise, they would establish a new party.
Khanal expressed dissatisfaction for not being given a chance to speak during the meeting and submitted a 30-point proposal opposing the decision-making process.
Leaders including Ram Kumari Jhakri, Dr. Jagnnath Khatiwada, and Ghanashyam Bhusal have also made it clear that they will not participate in the merger without ideological transformation and organizational restructuring.
According to political analysts, Khanal’s move to announce a new party and the Jhakri faction’s opposition indicate deep internal disputes and a potential split within the Unified Socialist.
