A collective funeral procession was held today for those who lost their lives during the Jen-Z protest on September 8 (Bhadra 23).
Bodies kept at the Teaching Hospital morgue were sent for cremation. While some relatives had already claimed the bodies, a funeral procession was organized for the remaining ones.
Families of the deceased, relatives, protesters, and citizens participated in the procession, carrying portraits of the victims, garlands, and the national flag. Some bodies were draped with cloths inscribed with slogans such as, “How can the childless understand Jen-Z’s dream?” reflecting emotional anger toward the movement’s suppression.
The government has declared those killed in the protest as ‘martyrs’ and announced that their funerals would be conducted with national honors. It has also declared September 17 (Ashoj 1) as a national day of mourning with a public holiday.
