The Mid-Hill Highway has been obstructed in Rukum East following continuous snowfall, disrupting traffic movement in the area.
According to the District Police Office, Rukum East, the Lukum–Patihalna section of the highway has been blocked due to snow accumulation. As a result, vehicles have been unable to pass through the route, and buses traveling from Kathmandu have been stranded.
After receiving reports of stranded vehicles, a police team led by Inspector Himraj Bik from the Kakri Area Police Office was dispatched to the site, said Deputy Superintendent of Police Umashankar Prasad Yadav. He added that snowfall is still continuing, making rescue operations and snow clearance difficult.
Coordination has been initiated with local authorities to reopen the blocked road. Chief District Officer Sita Pariyar said that a JCB excavator has been mobilized in coordination with Bhume Rural Municipality to rescue stranded passengers and clear the snow.
“We are preparing to remove the snow using heavy equipment,” CDO Pariyar said. “Continuous snowfall may take some time to clear, but we are fully focused on the safe rescue of passengers.”
Normal life has been affected in the high Himalayan and upper hilly regions of Rukum East. While snowfall has been ongoing in higher areas since last night, lower regions have been experiencing rainfall.
Despite the cold affecting daily life, farmers have welcomed the long-awaited rain and snowfall. Local farmer Bimal BC of Sisne Rural Municipality–5 said wheat crops had begun drying up due to lack of rainfall, and the recent precipitation has brought much-needed relief to agriculture.
