Minister for Physical Infrastructure and Transport Kulman Ghising visited Ilam to inspect the areas affected by the floods and landslides of Ashoj 18.
Speaking to journalists after crossing Rajduwali in Ilam, Minister Ghising said the government has given top priority to relief and rehabilitation efforts in the district.
“The government has already declared Ilam a disaster-affected crisis zone,” he said. “Declaring it a crisis zone means ensuring prompt initiatives to restore basic services such as roads, drinking water, and electricity, and to address the needs of the people.”
He added that the assessment of damages is ongoing. “The data collection process is still underway. Power supply has been disrupted in several areas, but our technical teams are working on it. I have been informed that electricity and the Mechi Highway will be fully restored by tomorrow,” Ghising stated.
He also mentioned that relief distribution is being organized in a coordinated manner. “We have already started distributing relief materials, and the process will continue in coordination with local, provincial, and federal governments,” he said.
Minister Ghising and his team traveled from Kathmandu to Bhadrapur by air and then reached Rajduwali in Maikhola by road before proceeding to Ilam to observe the damaged sections of the highway caused by landslides.
