Minister for Energy, Water Resources and Irrigation, Physical Infrastructure and Transport, and Urban Development, Kulman Ghising, has said that citizens currently expect good governance rather than big dreams from the government.
Speaking at an interaction program on development and construction organized at Janaki Rural Municipality in Kailali, Minister Ghising said people are looking for immediate results through action, not speeches.
“While visiting the public these days, we have not encountered any unrealistic demands,” Ghising said. “What citizens want is fast and efficient service delivery, financial transparency, and a corruption-free society.” He claimed that the current government is seriously focused on fulfilling these basic expectations of the people.
Acknowledging that there are some complexities in implementing development projects, Minister Ghising stressed the need to untangle these problems and deliver work that people can actually feel. He said people want rapid development in a short time, which remains a major challenge for the government.
“Lighting a bulb alone does not illuminate the country,” he said. “For true prosperity, every state mechanism and sector must be illuminated in the real sense—transparent and capable.”
During the program, Minister Ghising urged people not to be misled by rumors about the postponement of elections. He said there is no need for anyone to doubt that elections will take place as announced. He added that after the elections, the responsibility of choosing what kind of leadership and government the country will have lies in the hands of the people. He also appealed to voters to elect capable candidates in the upcoming election.
On the same occasion, Minister Ghising shared positive news for farmers of the Rani Jamara Kulariya Irrigation Project area. He committed that local farmers would be given ownership in the electricity generated from the project, which currently provides irrigation facilities to around 38,000 hectares of land.
“Just as you have received irrigation facilities, farmers will also own a certain percentage of the electricity produced,” he said, adding that the necessary legislation to ensure this provision is in its final stage.
