A group of Buddhist monks walking for world peace arrived in Hetauda on Thursday, where they were warmly received at Karra Chowk by local residents along with representatives of Nepal Magar Buddhist Service Society Makwanpur and Hetauda Pragya Mahavihar.
The 23-member monastic team is led by chief monk Acharn Suphit Ramkshit Dhammo of Wat Thampai Vihara and is traveling on foot to Lumbini, the birthplace of Buddha. The group includes 15 monks from Thailand, four from India, three from Nepal, and one from Laos. According to All Nepal Bhikkhu Federation central member Bhikkhu Medhankar Sthavir, six additional volunteers from Thailand, India, and Nepal are also supporting the walk. The team covers around 25 to 30 kilometers daily.
Having entered Nepal via Assam and Tripura in India, the monks stayed बुधवार night in Amlekhganj before reaching Hetauda. Accommodation in Hetauda has been arranged by Pragya Mahavihar, said its chairperson Prem Shakya. The group is scheduled to leave Friday morning for Manahari.
Their planned route passes through Bhandara, Narayanghat, Kawasoti, Dumkibas, Khaireni, Butwal, and Bhairahawa before reaching Lumbini. The peace walk began on February 10 from Golmaraj Buddha Vihar in Rautahat and is scheduled to conclude on February 22 in Kapilvastu, carrying a message of global peace and harmony.
