In the Indian Premier League, Mumbai Indians began with a historic, emphatic win by achieving one of the biggest run chases in league history.
Playing at Wankhede Stadium on Sunday night, Mumbai defeated the Kolkata Knight Riders by 6 wickets. After losing the toss and being invited to bat first, Kolkata posted a strong total of 220 runs for the loss of 4 wickets.
Chasing a target of 221 runs, Mumbai completed the chase in 19.1 overs, scoring 224 runs while losing 4 wickets.
Mumbai’s victory was powered by explosive batting from captain Rohit Sharma and Ryan Rickelton. Sharma scored 78 runs while Rickelton made 81 runs. The duo put together a spectacular opening partnership of 148 runs, recorded as the second-highest opening stand in IPL history.
