The Nagadesh Bhairab Jatra, revived after 12 years, was successfully held this week. The festival, which began on Monday, concluded on Thursday night following the traditional Nagadesh procession.
During the event, five deities—Jyapungcha, Nhapa Bhail, Lipa Bhail, Nhapa Dagin, and Lipa Dagin—performed a special type of dance based on tantric and Newar traditions.
According to the dance masters, the performances are accompanied by traditional Newar instruments such as Dha, Bhusya, and Punga, with the deities, including Bhairab, dancing to the rhythms. The dance is performed to ensure protection from epidemics, diseases, and natural disasters, as well as for the well-being of the community.
