The National Human Rights Commission (NHRC) has held discussions with Durga Prasai, coordinator of the National Campaign for Protection of Nation, Nationality, Religion, Culture, and Citizens, regarding the upcoming protest programs.
On Wednesday, Prasai met with a team led by NHRC Chairperson Tap Bahadur Magar. The commission initiated the meeting after Prasai announced a nationwide protest starting from Mangsir 7 (November 22), expressing concern over its nature and impact.
After the discussion, Prasai clarified the nature of the movement, saying, “Our protest is not about coming with guns or explosives, setting fire to Singha Durbar, burning people’s houses, or vandalizing businesses. This movement is peaceful and aimed at a systemic change in the country.”
According to him, preparations are underway to enforce a shutdown across the country—from Mechi in the east to Mahakali in the west. He urged the Nepali public to store essential goods in advance, such as diesel, cooking gas, and daily necessities.
Prasai also appealed to civil servants and security personnel to “stay home on the day of the protest.” He said that the full protest plan had already been shared with the National Human Rights Commission in advance.
