Nepali Congress General Secretary Bishwaprakash Sharma has called on party representatives to sign a petition demanding a special general convention by October 10 (Ashoj 24).
In a video message released on Tuesday (Ashoj 21), Sharma said that he has been asking convention representatives from different districts whether they will sign the petition or not.
“I have not personally called anyone asking them to sign. But if you have inquired about it, then please go ahead and sign,” he said.
Addressing questions about whether calling a special convention is against the party statute, Sharma clarified that following the statute does not weaken the party but strengthens it. He also announced that the formal application for the special general convention will be submitted to the party’s central office on October 11 (Ashoj 25).
“If you want to sign, please do so by the 24th. Friends have suggested submitting the petition to the central office for the special general convention on Ashoj 25 — a day before the Central Working Committee meeting scheduled for Ashoj 26. If you wish to stand together, why wait for an auspicious time?” Sharma said.
In his video message, Sharma also responded to seven key questions regarding the special general convention, emphasizing that internal democracy and adherence to party principles are essential for strengthening the Nepali Congress.
