Nepal Communist Party (UML) Secretary Mahesh Basnet has filed his candidacy today from Bhaktapur Constituency No. 2 for the House of Representatives election scheduled on Falgun 21.
Basnet submitted his nomination at the Election Office in Madhyapur Thimi, Bhaktapur. He had received a single endorsement from UML for this constituency.
Basnet’s main competitor is expected to be Nepali Congress candidate Durlabh Thapa, who narrowly defeated him in the 2079 election. This time, Congress has endorsed eight candidates, including Thapa. Similarly, the Nepal Workers and Peasants Party (NWPP) and the Rastriya Swatantra Party (RSP) have also fielded candidates in this constituency.
The Election Commission stated that the nomination process, which began at 10 a.m. across all 165 constituencies, will continue until 5 p.m. today. Candidates are arriving at election offices with musical bands and large groups of supporters, and the preliminary list of candidates will be published this evening.
