Senior leader of the Nepal Communist Party (NCP), Jhalanath Khanal, has decided not to contest the upcoming election.
Citing geographical reasons, Khanal expressed reluctance to contest from Baglung, leading the party to field Gyan Nath Gaire as its candidate in the constituency. The NCP had earlier proposed Khanal’s name for Baglung–2.
Khanal had assessed that contesting from Baglung could be difficult, as he had lived there around 2026 BS and a long time gap had passed since then.
According to Khanal’s secretariat, he had shown interest in returning to his former constituency, Baglung–1. However, after the party had already allocated the ticket to another candidate, Khanal decided not to participate in this election.
