The Nepal Electricity Authority (NEA) has disconnected the electricity supply of 25 industries for consuming electricity through dedicated and trunk lines without paying premium charges. The NEA had issued prior notice and provided 21 working days to clear outstanding dues in 28 installments, but these industries failed to respond within the deadline.
Earlier on Tuesday, the NEA disconnected power to six major industries, and on Friday night, power supply to 18 more industries was cut off.
Industries Disconnected on Friday
The industries whose electricity lines were cut on Friday include:
- Himal Iron
- Triveni Synthetic Yarn
- Cosmos Cement
- Panchakanya Steel
- Shyam Plastic
- Goyanka Foods
- SR Steel
- Panchakanya Plastic
- Bhalbari Automatic Factory
- Jagdamba Synthetic
- Everest Rolling
- Gharana Foods
- Bishal Cement
- SR Foods
- Siddhartha PET Plast
- Butwal Cement
- Sona Minerals & Oils
- Nigale Cement
Everest Paper Mills had already been disconnected earlier for failing to pay regular electricity charges.
Industries Disconnected Earlier
On Tuesday morning, NEA had cut power to the following six major industries:
- Jagdamba Steel
- Reliance Spinning Mills
- Shivam Cement
- Ghorahi Cement
- Arghakhanchi Cement Industries
- Triveni Spinning Mills
These six industries alone owe around Rs. 4.30 billion in unpaid dues, according to the NEA.
NEA Statement
“We initiated this process after NEA’s board decided to recover outstanding dues from dedicated and trunk line users through installment facilities,” said NEA spokesperson Rajan Dhakal.
“Most industries have opted for installment facilities, so their electricity hasn’t been disconnected. Only those who failed to comply have had their power cut,” he added.
The NEA had earlier, on Ashoj 12, issued a public notice urging industries to clear their dues as per the board’s decision. Six industries involved in the dedicated and trunk line dispute have obtained interim court orders, so their power supply has not been cut. Government-owned Hetauda Cement and Udayapur Cement have already committed to payment, so their supply remains intact.
13 Industries Opt for Installment Facility
According to spokesperson Dhakal, 13 industries have already started paying dues under the installment scheme. Among them:
- Hulas Steel, which owes over Rs. 140 million, has paid Rs. 5.043 million as the first installment.
- Ashok Steels in Simara has paid Rs. 6.3 million as its first installment.
The NEA has stated that action will continue against remaining defaulters if they do not clear their dues or come under the installment plan.
