The Nepal Electricity Authority (NEA) has begun cutting off electricity lines of large industries that have failed to pay long-pending electricity dues.
Starting this morning, right after the Tihar festival, NEA disconnected power supply to Jagdamba Steel, Reliance Spinning Mills, Shivam Cement, Ghorahi Cement, Arghakhanchi Cement Industries, and Triveni Spinning Mills. These industries have not cleared their outstanding payments for a long time.
According to NEA, Jagdamba Steel has dues amounting to Rs 1.60 billion, Reliance Spinning Mills owes Rs 753.7 million, Shivam Cement Rs 778.8 million, Ghorahi Cement Rs 508.5 million, Arghakhanchi Cement Industries Rs 448.4 million, and Triveni Spinning Mills Rs 321 million.
NEA stated that these dues fall under premium charges for dedicated and trunk line electricity connections used between Magh 2072 and Baisakh 2075. It claims that during the load-shedding period, these industries used special power lines but did not pay the required additional premium fees.
According to NEA Executive Director Manoj Silwal, a special payment counter was kept open even during the Tihar public holidays so that industries could clear their outstanding dues.
