In the first seven months of the current fiscal year, goods worth Rs. 595.46 billion have been imported through the Birgunj border point.
According to the Birgunj Customs Office, this marks an increase of Rs. 58.91 billion (around 11%) compared to the same period in the previous fiscal year. During the first seven months of last fiscal year, goods worth approximately Rs. 536.55 billion were imported through this checkpoint.
Information Officer Uday Singh Bista stated that petroleum products and iron and iron-based goods account for a significant share of imports through this route.
Major imports via Birgunj in the first seven months include:
- Petroleum products: Rs. 123.67 billion
- Iron and iron products: Rs. 52.75 billion
- Machinery parts: Rs. 42.48 billion
- Crude soybean oil: Rs. 41.20 billion
- Electrical machinery, equipment, and parts: Rs. 30.91 billion
- Fertilizers: Rs. 28.59 billion
- Garments: Rs. 23.71 billion
The Birgunj border continues to be Nepal’s key trade gateway, handling a major portion of the country’s total imports.
