
Nepal secured its second consecutive victory in the Super Six stage of the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup Asia and East Asia Pacific Qualifiers by defeating Qatar by five runs in Oman.
The match was played at the Oman Cricket Academy Turf-1 in Al Amerat, Oman. Earlier on Sunday, Nepal had edged past the United Arab Emirates (UAE) by just one run in a thrilling encounter.
Chasing a target of 148 runs set by Nepal, Qatar was bowled out for 142 runs in 19.5 overs. For Qatar, opener Imal Liyanage top-scored with 55 runs off 35 balls, while Zubair Ali contributed 52 runs. Nepal’s Sandeep Lamichhane was the standout bowler, taking five wickets. Nandan Yadav claimed two wickets, and Dipendra Singh Airee took one.
Earlier, Nepal batted first after losing the toss and managed to post 147 runs for the loss of nine wickets in 20 overs. Captain Rohit Paudel led from the front with a brilliant 58 runs. Dipendra Singh Airee added 26 runs, and Gulshan Jha contributed 16.
For Qatar, captain Mirza Baig and Daniel Lewis each took three wickets, while Muhammad Asim took one.
Nepal advanced to the Super Six as the winner of Group ‘B’ after defeating Kuwait and Japan in the group stage.
