Kathmandu — Nepal made a winning start in the first-ever Blind Women’s T20 World Cup, defeating Sri Lanka by nine wickets on Wednesday.
In the match held in New Delhi, India, Sri Lanka won the toss and elected to bat first. They scored 87 runs for the loss of eight wickets in the allotted 20 overs. In reply, Nepal comfortably chased down the target in just 5.2 overs, scoring 88 runs for the loss of only one wicket.
Nepal’s Mankeshi Chaudhary played a brilliant unbeaten knock of 61 runs off 22 balls, including 11 fours, leading her team to an easy victory. Sushma Tamang remained not out on 4 runs.
The only Nepali batter to be dismissed was Binita Pun, who scored 13 runs off 8 balls with two boundaries before being bowled by Sri Lanka’s Sandaya Nilanthi. Earlier, Kanti Yogi took three wickets, helping restrict Sri Lanka to a low total. Binita Pun and Laxmi Lama also took one wicket each.
For Sri Lanka, captain and wicketkeeper Mihirani Dulanjali top-scored with 23 runs off 29 balls, hitting two fours. Three Sri Lankan batters were dismissed for ducks.
Mankeshi Chaudhary was named the Player of the Match for her outstanding batting performance.
Nepal will play their second match against India on Friday. India had earlier defeated Sri Lanka by ten wickets in their opening game. The tournament features teams from India (host), Nepal, Sri Lanka, Australia, the United States, Pakistan, and England.
