Nepal were knocked out of the group stage of the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup after suffering a nine-wicket defeat to the West Indies cricket team in their third match.
With three consecutive losses, Nepal finished without a single point. They had earlier been defeated by England and Italy.
Group C Standings
West Indies remain unbeaten at the top of Group C with six points. England sit second with four points from two wins and one loss, while Scotland and Italy are placed third and fourth respectively with two points each.
Italy must win both of their remaining matches to stay in contention, while England will secure a Super Eight berth with a victory over Italy.
Match Summary
Chasing Nepal’s target of 134 runs, West Indies comfortably reached 134/1 in 15.2 overs. Captain Shai Hope remained unbeaten on 61, while Shimron Hetmyer scored an unbeaten 46. Nandan Yadav claimed the only wicket for Nepal.
Earlier, after losing the toss and batting first, Nepal posted 133/8 in 20 overs. Vice-captain Dipendra Singh Airee scored 58 runs off 47 balls, while Sompal Kami added an unbeaten 26. The pair shared a crucial 54-run partnership to stabilize the innings.
However, Nepal had a disappointing powerplay, managing just 22 runs for the loss of three wickets in the first six overs. Kushal Bhurtel was dismissed for a single-digit score for the second consecutive match. Rohit Paudel scored 5, Aasif Sheikh 11, Aarif Sheikh 2, and Lokesh Bam 11.
For West Indies, Jason Holder took four wickets, while Akeal Hosein, Matthew Forde, Shamar Joseph, and Roston Chase claimed one wicket each.
With this match, Sompal Kami became the first and only Nepali player to feature in three T20 World Cups, having represented Nepal in all three editions. Meanwhile, Sandeep Jora and all-rounder Basir Ahmad are the only remaining squad members yet to make an appearance in the tournament.
