
Nepal has been eliminated from the title race of the South Asian Football Federation (SAFF) U-17 Women’s Championship following a defeat to Bangladesh. With this second loss against Bangladesh, Nepal managed to secure only 3 points from 4 matches.
Nepal had earlier suffered a heavy 8–0 loss to India in its opening match, before bouncing back with a 2–1 victory over Bhutan. However, Nepal was beaten 3–0 by Bangladesh in a previous encounter and once again lost 4–1 to them today at the Changlimithang Stadium in Thimphu, Bhutan.
Bangladesh’s victory was powered by a hat-trick from Sauravi Akhand Preeti, while Thunuwe Marma added another goal. For Nepal, captain Bhumika Budhathoki scored the lone goal.
Bangladesh opened the scoring in the 38th minute through Thunuwe. Preeti doubled the lead in the 44th minute. In injury time of the first half, Bhumika pulled one back for Nepal. However, Preeti struck again in the 71st minute and completed her hat-trick in the 86th minute to seal Bangladesh’s win.
With the victory, Bangladesh has collected 9 points from 4 matches. India, who has played one game less, also sits on 9 points.
