The Government of Nepal is observing the 45th World Food Day today, raising global awareness about the importance of clean, nutritious, and balanced food.
The Department of Agriculture, in coordination with the Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO) of the United Nations, the Food for Agriculture Campaign, and various other organizations, is leading the celebration. This year, the event is being observed under the theme “Water is Life, Water is Food: Leave No One Behind.”
A main organizing committee, chaired by the Director General of the Department of Agriculture, Prakash Kumar Sanjel, has been formed to oversee the event.
According to Director General Sanjel, preparations have been made to celebrate the day through food exhibitions, awareness programs, posters, public messages, and information dissemination activities. He expressed confidence that the observance would help promote efforts to uplift people affected by hunger and food insecurity.
On the occasion, various national and international non-governmental organizations are collaborating to organize awareness campaigns, theme-based interactions, article publications, and other activities throughout the country.
The Department of Agriculture has been organizing different events every year on October 16 to mark the day. The United Nations’ 20th General Assembly in November 1979 had passed a resolution to commemorate the founding day of FAO as World Food Day, which has been observed globally since 1981.
