Nepal Oil Corporation has decided to sell half-filled LPG gas cylinders to better manage the supply of cooking gas across the country.
In a statement, the corporation said the new arrangement will come into effect from Friday and remain in place until further notice. Under the decision, each cylinder will be filled with 7.1 kilograms of LPG gas and sold at a price of NPR 955 per cylinder.
According to the corporation, the move has been taken to organize the supply and distribution system of LPG gas in view of the current situation. Officials believe the measure will help ensure gas is available to a larger number of consumers.
The corporation has also urged consumers to purchase LPG gas according to the new system.
Although LPG gas has been regularly imported and distributed to meet demand, the corporation noted that demand in the Kathmandu Valley has increased significantly in the past two to three months. It also stated that the ongoing tensions in the Middle East have been affecting the global supply of petroleum products and LPG.
