The Nepal Sugarcane Producers’ Federation has announced a highway-centered protest to raise concerns over the difficulties faced by sugarcane farmers.
In a statement issued by Federation Chairman Shreeram Prasad Yadav, it was highlighted that:
“Farmers are facing severe financial crises as they are not receiving payments according to the government-set prices. This has seriously affected their livelihoods.”
The statement noted that delayed payments for sugarcane have pushed farmers into debt and are also impacting the upcoming production cycle.
The federation said it will organize peaceful sit-ins, rallies, and warning campaigns on highways, urging all sugarcane farmers to participate.
“Unity is our strength,” the statement read. “We will continue the movement until the government addresses our demands. We demand the immediate announcement of the minimum support price for sugarcane and prompt payment of outstanding dues to farmers.”
