The Ministry of Home Affairs has announced preparations for the largest security deployment in the country’s history to ensure a peaceful, fair, and fraud-free election on 21 Falgun.
According to Home Ministry spokesperson Anand Kafle, a total of 332,000 security personnel will be deployed, including the Nepali Army, Nepal Police, Armed Police Force (APF), Election Police, and staff from the National Investigation Department. The breakdown is as follows:
- 150,000 Election (Myaadi) Police
- 78,000 Nepali Army personnel
- 70,000 Nepal Police personnel
- 32,000 Armed Police Force personnel
- Around 2,000 National Investigation Department staff
This deployment is the largest in Nepal’s electoral history.
The Nepal Police will have the primary responsibility for overall security management. Following the traditional security model, the first security ring will be Nepal Police, the second APF, and the third the Nepali Army. The army’s deployment began on 21 Magh. Voting centers are classified as highly sensitive, sensitive, and normal, with security arrangements tailored accordingly. Each stage, from pre-election preparation to voting, counting, and result announcement, will have strict security measures in place.
In addition to conventional security, artificial intelligence (AI) and digital monitoring will be a major tool. An AI and Advanced Analytics Cell has been established under the guidance of IGP Dan Bahadur Karki to monitor misinformation, hate speech, digital manipulation, and misleading content on social media 24/7.
IGP Karki emphasized that the misuse of information technology could affect elections, making AI-based monitoring and legal response critical. “During elections, misinformation and rumors spread rapidly. This AI cell will help prevent such attempts from influencing the process,” he said.
He further stated that the Nepal Police are continuously coordinating with the Home Minister, the Election Commission officials, and the Prime Minister to ensure smooth security operations.
“The AI-driven technology, three-tier security ring, and active police leadership have laid the foundation for peaceful and fair elections,” Karki said, adding that unprecedented cooperation and systematic preparation among security agencies have strengthened confidence in a fraud-free election.
