The Nepali Army is preparing to deploy 80,000 personnel for the upcoming House of Representatives election scheduled for Falgun 21.
Assistant Rathi and Army Spokesperson Rajaram Basnet stated that the Integrated Security Plan 2082 for the election has been approved and endorsed by the President, and the army will be deployed accordingly.
Basnet explained, “As per the directives of the Integrated Security Plan, army deployment in the field will begin one month prior to the election.”
The plan, approved by the government and the National Security Council, involves the army operating in three phases during the election. Pre-election responsibilities include securing ballot printing and safeguarding key infrastructures.
In coordination with the Nepal Police and Armed Police Force, the army will secure critical structures such as airports and prisons. The army will also conduct integrated training and drills down to the local level in coordination with four security agencies and district administration to ensure smooth election operations.
The training and drills aim to facilitate a free, fair, impartial, and violence-free election. During voting, the army will serve in the third layer of security, ensuring full protection for political parties, candidates, voters, and election staff at polling stations and centers.
As in previous elections, the army will establish security bases across the country. Responsibilities will extend from transporting ballot boxes to safeguarding counting centers after voting concludes. Provincial-level security workshops are underway to assess situations and guide additional measures.
The army emphasized that coordination among all security forces, local administrations, and representatives remains a top priority to provide comprehensive election security.
