The ongoing Central Committee meeting of the Nepali Congress will continue today as well. According to Chief Secretary Krishna Prasad Paudel, the meeting is scheduled to begin at 1 PM this afternoon.
The Central Committee meeting, which started on Bhadra 28, began with party president Sher Bahadur Deuba presenting his views. During the same session, citing health reasons, Deuba assigned Vice President Purna Bahadur Khadka to serve as the acting party president. The second session of the meeting was held on Asoj 30. While central members were still expressing their opinions, the meeting was postponed on Kartik 1 until Thursday.
After resuming on Thursday, intense discussions have continued between the establishment faction and the opposition group over whether to hold a regular general convention or a special general convention.
Deuba’s faction has maintained that it will not be possible to hold the convention within the month of Mangsir, while leaders Shekhar Koirala, General Secretaries Gagan Thapa and Bishwa Prakash Sharma, along with others, have been strongly advocating for holding the convention as soon as possible.
Meanwhile, the issue of more than 53% of general convention representatives signing a petition demanding a special general convention and submitting it to the party’s central office has also become one of the major agenda items of the ongoing Central Committee meeting.
