Kathmandu — The central committee meeting of the Nepali Congress, which was expected to conclude on Wednesday, is likely to be extended further, as discussions among top leaders continue.
During Wednesday’s session, senior party leaders shared their views on key political and organizational matters.
Speaking at the meeting, central member and former Home Minister Ramesh Lekhak suggested that the general convention schedule proposed by General Secretary Gagan Thapa and Joint General Secretary Mahendra Yadav should be harmonized to finalize the 15th General Convention timeline.
Lekhak also emphasized the need to withdraw signatures collected for the proposal of a special convention, stating that the party should prioritize the upcoming parliamentary election over parliamentary reinstatement.
Similarly, Dr. Shashank Koirala said that the only option to safeguard the democratic process in the country is to move ahead with the election announced by the government for Falgun 21 (early March). He urged party members to unite and go to the polls with consensus, avoiding internal disputes.
Koirala further suggested putting the debate over the special convention on hold and focusing on pressuring the government to create a conducive environment for elections. He also called for an impartial investigation into the incidents that occurred during the Genji movement on Bhadra 23 and 24, urging the truth to be made public.
Other members who spoke during the meeting also demanded that the party hold its general convention before the national elections.
