The Nepali Congress Central Executive Committee is meeting today at the party’s central office in Sanepa. According to the party’s Chief Secretary Krishna Prasad Paudel, the meeting will begin at 1:00 pm.
In its previous meeting held on Friday, the Central Executive Committee had passed a proposal to hold the party’s 15th General Convention from Baisakh 28 to 31. Following that decision, General Secretaries Gagan Kumar Thapa and Bishwaprakash Sharma began preparations for a special general convention scheduled for Poush 27 and 28, prompting another meeting of the executive committee today.
Earlier, on Asoj 29, 54 percent of Nepali Congress general convention representatives submitted an application at the central office demanding a special general convention. Out of a total of 4,743 representatives from the party’s 14th General Convention, 2,488 have formally called for a special convention.
According to the Nepali Congress statute, if at least 40 percent of the total representatives demand it, a special general convention must be convened within three months.
