The meeting of the Nepali Congress Central Working Committee is being held today. The meeting will begin at 1 PM at the party’s central office, BP Smriti Bhawan in Lalitpur.
The meeting of the Congress had started on October 14 (Ashoj 28). It has been focused on discussions regarding the political situation that developed after the ‘Gen-Z’ protests held on September 8 and 9 (Bhadra 23 and 24), the formation of an interim government, and the dissolution of the House of Representatives, along with the party’s role in these events.
Today’s meeting will mainly focus on matters related to the party’s 15th General Convention. The current term of the Central Working Committee led by party President Sher Bahadur Deuba is expiring within the Nepali month of Mangsir. From the beginning, there has been debate on whether to conduct a regular general convention or not. In case a regular convention is not held, some leaders have demanded a special general convention and even launched a signature campaign among convention representatives. It is claimed that 54 percent of convention representatives have signed in favor of holding the special general convention.
Earlier, at the beginning of the meeting held on October 14 (Ashoj 28), party President Sher Bahadur Deuba, citing health reasons, handed over the responsibility of acting party president to Vice President Purna Bahadur Khadka. Since then, the meetings have been taking place under his leadership.
Meanwhile, due to Tihar and Chhath festivals, the last meeting held on October 17 (Kartik 1) passed a condolence motion on the demise of former central member Rishikesh Gautam and scheduled the next meeting for today.
