The Nepali Congress is preparing to nominate lawmaker Dilendra Badu as the Chairperson of the State Affairs and Good Governance Committee under the House of Representatives. Badu is currently a member of the committee.
According to party sources, internal discussions are underway to finalize his candidacy. To make a decision, Congress President Sher Bahadur Deuba—who had earlier postponed a meeting on Monday morning—has called another meeting.
The meeting of the top five leaders is scheduled for the afternoon, with Vice Presidents Purna Bahadur Khadka and Dhanraj Gurung, and General Secretaries Gagan Thapa and Bishwa Prakash Sharma invited to participate.
Speaker Dev Raj Ghimire has already set the election date for Bhadra 11, prompting President Deuba to call the emergency meeting of top leaders.
Among the four contenders for the post, Badu is being strongly considered. Other aspirants include Ambika Basnet, Sarita Prasai, and Hridayaram Thani.
Congress members in the committee include Purna Bahadur Khadka, Gagan Thapa, Bishwa Prakash Sharma, Dilendra Prasad Badu, Sarita Prasai, Hridayaram Thani, Ishwori Devi Naupane, Ram Hari Khatiwada, and Ambika Basnet.
The position has been vacant since July 28 (Bhadra 28) when Congress lawmaker Ram Hari Khatiwada resigned following controversy over the cooling-off period in the Civil Service Bill.
