The Nepali Congress is in mourning following the demise of senior leader and former minister Homanath Dahal. As a mark of respect, the Nepali Congress (Special General Convention faction) has suspended the padayatra program that was scheduled to take place today.
The padayatra was planned to begin at 1:00 pm from Bhrikutimandap as part of the publicity campaign ahead of the special general convention called for the 27th and 28th by party general secretaries Gagan Thapa and Bishwo Prakash Sharma.
However, following the sad news of the passing of senior leader Dahal, who was also a veteran journalist, the organizing group decided to immediately halt street-focused programs. During an interaction with journalists, the organizers paid tribute to the late Dahal and informed that formal programs would not be carried forward during this period of mourning.
It may be recalled that the two general secretaries have called the special general convention for the 27th and 28th to discuss party transformation and contemporary political issues. The padayatra was being prepared to build momentum ahead of the convention.
