After falling for two consecutive days, the Nepal Stock Exchange (NEPSE) bounced back today, rising by 22.59 points to close at 2,582.18. Over the past two days, the index had dropped by a total of 103 points.
The market opened with strong momentum, and within the first three minutes, NEPSE surged by 102 points (around 4%), triggering a positive circuit breaker that halted trading for 20 minutes. Investor enthusiasm was fueled by the central bank’s decision yesterday to lift the NPR 25 crore limit on share-backed loans. After the circuit breaker pause, the index settled with a net increase of 22 points.
All sectors, except the trading sector, recorded gains today. Out of the total companies listed, 200 shares increased, 41 declined, and 10 remained unchanged.
The biggest gainer was Bindhyabasini Hydropower Development Company, with shares rising by 8.21%, while Three Star Hydropower Company recorded the largest loss, dropping by 9%.
Despite the index increase, trading volume decreased. Yesterday, transactions totaled NPR 5.76 billion, whereas today, 313 companies traded 11.8 million shares worth NPR 5.27 billion.
